Movies, books, games, DVDs, event tickets, magazines and CDs are among the most popular items French consumers purchase online, with 35% of all internet users placing an order in this category during 2015.
‘Health & Beauty’ is one of the fastest growing ecommerce categories worldwide, and it has also become the third most popular online category in France. Shoppers are becoming increasingly confident when purchase their body care, hair care and make-up items online due to the greater variety and more competitive prices available. So, it’s no surprise that in the last two quarters of 2015, as much as 28% of all web users in France made a ‘Health & Beauty’ purchase over the internet.
The online ‘Consumer Electronics’ category is just as popular in France as ‘Health & Beauty’. As expected, TV, multimedia sets, laptops, smartphones and tablets are among the most popular electronic items French consumers buy online. Last year, nearly 28% of the internet population in France made a purchase within this category.
Interestingly, ‘Furniture and home décor’ is another online category that is becoming increasingly popular both globally and in France, despite its large size. New data shows that as much as 12% of all sales in the furniture industry in France are made online, which is significantly higher than the average of 6% – 7% elsewhere in Europe. Last year, the online furniture market in France was worth nearly 1.1bn euros, and 27% of all French internet users bought furniture online in Q3 and Q4 of 2015. As expected, small furniture, décor items and accessories are among the most sought after products within this category.
