Reid is responsible for new merchant acquisition and strategic partnerships within Rakuten’s cross-border initiatives into Japan. He helps merchants navigate the complexities of cross-border e-commerce into the Japanese market, and works with Rakuten’s strategic partners to develop comprehensive e-commerce support services for merchants looking to enter Japan. Reid has spent 10 years working on cross-border e-commerce, including time at a Japanese freight forwarder, eBay’s global shipping program, and his current focus on the Japanese market at Rakuten.
Rakuten is Japan’s largest e-commerce marketplace, with over 105 million registered users, over £21 billion annual gross transaction volume, and over 27% of the total e-commerce market share in Japan. Rakuten’s cross-border e-commerce program makes it easy for merchants around the world to sell directly to Japanese customers. By removing barriers such as language, payments, and logistics, Rakuten is expanding cross-border e-commerce from the UK to Japan.
